 Products and Cargo Categories

Air Madagascar classifies cargo into specific categories, each with its own pricing model:

  • Ordinary Freight
    General items charged at 5,500 MGA/kg. A minimum fee of 40,000 MGA applies for packages under 8.5 kg.

  • Vanilla Freight
    Dedicated rate for raw or processed vanilla at 8,500 MGA/kg.

  • Value Freight
    For valuable items such as gemstones, precious metals, diplomas, artwork, or banknotes. Priced at 9,000 MGA/kg.

  • Special Freight
    Covers items needing extra handling like live animals or temperature-sensitive goods. Rates are provided upon request.

Special Cargo Handling

Certain cargo types require extra precautions:

  • Fragile Goods (e.g., glassware, ceramics): Must be secured in sturdy, padded packaging.

  • Perishables (e.g., food, flowers, plants): Should be packed to maintain freshness during transit.

  • Live Animals: Require proper veterinary certification and may need CITES documents. Shipping must follow IATA Live Animal Regulations.

Shipping and Receiving Procedures

  • At Departure:

    • Cargo must be checked in at least 3 hours before flight departure.

    • A valid photo ID must be presented by the sender.

  • At Arrival:

    • Collect your shipment as soon as it arrives to avoid storage fees or spoilage.

    • Inspect goods for any damage before signing off.
